Welcome to Island Theology!
This is the post to start with!
Why did I start this blog? It came from a simple thought in one of my bible study classes: What would a person believe if their only spiritual knowledge came from the bible?
As I learn more about Christian practices I see more and more of our traditions are not completely bible based. I am not saying they teach away from the bible – I am sure much of what we do in church has origins in the bible.

I worry that these “traditions” are becoming Christian Theology when they are just human inventions. For example, I have friends who are committed Calvinists and Armenians and can pull a dozen quotes out of the bible to support their respective belief systems, but when I read the bible I see much of what they believe is contradicted so how can these systems be fully biblical!
I am not a theologian! I cannot put my mind on a single passage and extract all the meaning and nuance; I don’t know Greek and Hebrew and Latin and all the language subtleties. I respect people who are theologians and thank God for putting them in my life.
I am a “system” person. I have a skill for looking at a complex system and reducing it to its essentials. This is how I make my living and I think this is what God put me here to do. So if you are looking for endless debate on the meaning of the word “Lord” look somewhere else. If you are looking for a biblical base of the essentials that the bible teaches I think you might find some help here.
For this work I mentally stranded myself on a deserted island with only a bible, a pencil and a notebook. While it is impossible to completely forget all the Christian writings and knowledge I have been exposed to I will try to keep my thoughts to just the bible in front of me. I do not have special knowledge; no human can fully understand God.
I pray God use me and give me the strength and wisdom to present His reality clearly and truthfully!
