Island Theology is a thought experiment: if someone’s only source of knowledge was the bible what would their “Christianity” be like?
Too often I hear Christians teaching something that really isn’t in the bible. Their belief system is based on stringing together bible verses and filling in the blanks with conjecture and human logic. They well may be correct but it seems so often the human logic arrives at a theology that contradicts passage after passage. Things we learn in church are often based on the thoughts and writings of influential Christians throughout history. I am not saying that Martin Luther, for example, was wrong or somehow not in line with the bible. But I am saying that many of the aspects of Lutheran theology are man made and not in the bible. They may be true but they are not essential or central to the teachings of Jesus.
